Tam Harvey, Billy Connolly’s former bandmate from The Humblebums, has died.

The pair co-founded the folk rock band in Glasgow in 1965 and toured the pubs and clubs of the city, with Connolly entertaining audiences with humorous anecdotes in between songs.

The Humblebums would go on to release an album in 1969 titled First Collection of Merry Melodies, with singer Gerry Rafferty later joining the band.

However Harvey, an accomplished bluegrass guitarist, later left the group.

His daughter announced the news on Twitter, saying: “My father died a few hours ago.

“Here is in his hey day on the right, Tam Harvey.

“He started a band with Billy Connolly called The Humblebums. Taught him guitar.

“He was one of the best guitarists/stringed instruments players from the UK.”
